Seshat data, in machine-readable formats, will be made progressively available to the public to download and analyze on this page. The majority of our data is still under review and is not ready for analysis. Check back here or follow us on social media for updates.
You can freely browse through and download General and Social Complexity data for the original sample of 30 World Locations ("Natural Geographic Areas"). The only condition is that you cite the Seshat Databank and our articles when you publish your analysis results (see "Attribution & Licensing").
The data still under review/construction includes our ritual, warfare, institutions, and agriculture variables. It also features new regions outside of our original sample.
This dataset is based on linked data and semantic web technologies. The RDF downloads use ontologies to describe the semantics of the data, which are included in the downloads below.
